Today, I met with my client, who came for counselling. They had a doubt related to counselling and psychologists and asked me a question. The question was: if their friends and parents are suggesting psychological counselling, does that mean they have a psychological problem or disease?
The question was very simple but serious in meaning. And the question indicated a lack of awareness about psychological consultation.
Then I gave him an answer, and it is also important for others to know the meaning of psychology and psychological counselling.
If you consult with any psychologist or psychiatrist, that does not mean you are experiencing a mental or psychological problem or disease. Yes, it is true that psychologists also treat and provide counselling for mental health patients and other psychological problems, but that is clinical psychology. It is a branch of psychology where psychologists are trained to treat mental health patients and their issues.
If you consult with a psychologist for your daily routine problems, for improvement in decision-making skills, impulse control, time management, distraction, attraction, and many more issues that you face in your daily life—issues that disturb you—then with the help of psychological counselling or a psychologist, you get better results.
A psychologist is also a life coach, and their counselling is scientific and experimentally proven in practice. Psychological counselling is a scientific approach.
A psychologist always maintains the confidentiality of their clients' issues. And in psychology, nothing is right or wrong—that's the best part of psychology.
So, if you consult with any psychologist, or your parents and friends suggest psychological counselling, it means they want to help you more scientifically.
Psychology is very broad. Psychology has more than 32 branches, and many other super-speciality branches are being invented day by day.
So, please be aware of psychology, psychologists, and psychological counselling.
